How to Deal with Drama

By Ava Kesler

The first step to dealing with drama is to tell an adult. Adults have more power when it comes to social interactions in general, so this can help put an end to the behavior.

When hearing drama, you should listen and consider. But make yourself like an unbiased judge. Listen to what the person has to say, but consider what the other side has to say too. It is then up to you to decide which is in the wrong.

Don't spread rumors just to spread them. Rumors are awful when they get out of hand. There's no reason to spread them. Even if you dislike someone, you don't need to go spreading lies. That's just morally not right. The best way to deal with someone who you dislike, is to talk to them about any problems you have with them. If it's just a personality thing, then just ignore them. It's not healthy for you to spread rumors to hurt them. This is a really negative mindset, and it's not a good habit to make.

Handle drama responsibly. When you're dealing with gossip. usually many parties are at hand. You can hurt a lot of people's feelings depending on what you say to the drama. It's so easy to get caught up in drama that you could end up insulting someone. Try to think before you speak. Consider how backed-up what you're going to say is, or if you're just making it up on the spot. This can help protect other people's feelings in addition to protecting your own image when the heat of the drama is over. You don't want to have to deal with saying something you regret just because you got excited to be gossiping.

Remember that drama in friend groups is an unhealthy thing to have. It is something you should handle responsibly and fairly.

Drama and gossip is unfortunately part of society. It's going to be inevitable to come across it. Try to be that person that stops the unfair rumors. Act for what is best.
